Carole Robb

by Robert Sievert

When one thinks of watercolors, one thinks of bright colors and sparkling whites. There is a presumed brilliance that one expects. This is not the case with Carole Robb. Her murky dark liquid takes on Venice have another kind of brilliance. Her dark colors and deep tones create compelling images that are filled with mystery and the pleasures of the night.

Her recent show at the Robert Steele gallery contained a number of beautiful examples of her skills with watercolors. Her ability to use deeply saturated watercolor to convey the watery surfaces of Venice's canals is both intense and compelling.
